Pink

As long as it's Pink: more than just a shade

I'll admit, I hadn't planned to share this color with you just yet, but it has become incredibly relevant. On July 31st, the exhibition "As long as it's Pink" opened at Editory (1084 Budapest, Déri Miksa utca 6.). Go and see it!

Vibrant shades of pink convey happiness, creativity, and cheerfulness. It is the color of sensuality and romance, yet it remains fun, fresh, and energetic.

• Symbol of Hope: in the fight against breast cancer, the pink ribbon is a symbol of hope and awareness.

• Spirituality: on the Advent wreath, it is the color of the third candle, symbolizing joy.

• The power of Biology: pink reduces energy levels in men, which is why sports teams sometimes paint the visiting team's locker room pale pink. It is also used in prisons and mental health facilities. A specific shade, Baker-Miller Pink, has this effect—interestingly, it often has the opposite effect on women, boosting their energy.

• Interior Design: it is used cautiously; while it has a calming and tension-relieving effect, it can also make a space feel smaller. Combined with gray and silver, it creates an elegant look.

• Historical shift: while today it is associated with girls, before the 1940s, it was considered a color for boys (as a softened version of red, the symbol of strength).

• Branding: strongly linked to femininity, it is a favorite for brands targeting women. Pale shades convey respect, while bolder, darker tones transmit appreciation and gratitude.

• Cultural Trivia: interestingly, the Chinese were not familiar with pink until their encounter with Western culture.

Scientific spotlight: Baker-Miller Pink american psychologist Alexander Schauss discovered that this specific shade reduces aggression and violent behavior. In 1979, he convinced Navy commanders Baker and Miller to paint the walls of a correctional facility this color. It was proven that just 15 minutes in this environment lowered the inmates' adrenaline levels.
